Poetica Domenica :)

If I had the embroidered cloths of heaven, enwrought with golden and silver light, I would spread the cloths under your feet...

But I have only my dreams, so I have spread my dreams under your feet…

Tread softly, because you tread on my dreams!…

-WB Yeats

Above is one of my favorite poems, and here is one of my favorite songs! One of several which I tend to over play when I need a pick-me-up :)

Natasha St Pier - Un ange frappe a ma porte

After my previous post, I received plenty of private (and some public) feed-back which I love, of course.

Though most was sweet and kind, in others I was creamed! Nothing I didn't face often at work, really. Same question: How dare I think I can live abroad?

Please remember that though I have lived most of my life in the San Francisco Bay, despite my traditional overprotective family, after college I flew independently into the world! I've already managed to bloom for several years in different countries, and loved it!

Italian is not my first, second or third language, but my fourth :)

Most of us who pack our bags and move long term into a new country tend to have an open mentality, and are flexible, ready to accept the cultural differences.

So like many people who live abroad already, I don't think that life in Europe or the US is better or worse, it's just very DIFFERENT, and I accept it as such and enjoy it as much as I can, while I can :)

Yet, I cannot count how many dozens of times I've been told to put my feet back on the ground, and I simply don't get it because THIS IS my reality! I don't know anything else anymore! Does aaaanyone know Plato's allegory of the cave? I really don't want to turn back!

St. Agustine said it best: "The world is a book, and those who do not travel read only a page", and you know what? This is a book I want to read from cover to cover!

I don't know if it's just me who gets asked this question over, and over again or if it's just part of the transition process. I dunno... but I hope you liked the song :)

I'm sorry that people feel the need to say such discouraging things to you... ovviamente loro non ti conoscono... it's pretty clear from reading your blog that you have accomplished a lot in your life - it seems to be that you'll be a success - you're ready for Italy, you've done it before. You're living very much according to reality. To quote George Bernard Shaw, "Those who say it cannot be done should not bother those who are doing it." Punto.

Grazie Tina!

Maybe it's a common ritual to second guess those who "want to do something" versus those who already have done it!

Right now I'm simply someone who is leaving... ALONE!

Once I'm living my life in Rome, it will leave a different perspective in other's minds...

???

yea?

??

I hope!

:D

Grazie di nuovo Tina!

I loved your quote! I must remember that one :)

I'm amazed that people would actually go out of their way to write such things; honestly, do they feel its their responsibility to save the world--one dreamer at a time?

If we're talking about people close to you, fine, because you (most likely) respect their opinions, which are based on both (the real) you and the situation in full (not only what we get on the blog).

But people just wandering by who only want to discourage? They should just keep on walking. What is it to them if you make a wrong choice? Will they lose sleep? Will they worry about you? Probably not, so why write anything?

I'll never understand such things.

I say live and let live--let people make their own joys and their own mistakes; again, close friends and family can have a say (IF you ask!!!), but otherwise, it's just negative energy.

Buon Giorno Sognatrice!

No, this was all blogostatic

Good thing is that my life is not a bubble, so then there's no bubble to burst :)

I've learned to roll my eyes and shake it off... but to be honest, sometimes it does take me by surprise.

Ah, but my family and I had a heart to heart talk over a week ago, so the people who matter in my life and know me are supportive, and that's a BIG one for me!

:D <=big smile

Sognatrice has smarts, good heart, and good energy!

I always love what you write :)

è probabile che these people don't know what they are talking about...
And i agreeeee! living in other countries is just DIFFRENT!
i'll vouch for that....
...i get similar reactions from certain people surrounding my life, that will deject my plans....and for what? i don't get it...

rimani forte!!!

Wait a minute...people actually wrote to you to criticize your decision to move to Rome?!

I will never understand why some people just won't let others live their life the way they choose. My mom says those people are unhappy in their own life, and therefore try to bring others down (now doesn't that sound just like a "mom" thing to say?!)

I applaud you for following your heart!

Well when you are sitting in the middle of Rome happily sipping your caffe you will be able to laugh about it and feel proud that you had the courage to not be discouraged and follow your dream. And thats a great feeling.

Hey.. I love this song too.. and I listen to it tons of times.. overlisten, as you say..
My question is: Why do you like the song? That's what I am trying to understand.. There is smth to it.. voice is great, and animation is awesome, but still.. what do you like about it?
Also, regarding your travelling dreams.. It's cool that you are so open to read this book: the World. It widens the horizons, helps see other cultures and understand people better. I think it makes us reacher.. It opens the world of opportunities, but what is even more important, it opens our minds.. People that responded negatively simply want to live in their little, "safe" world.. where they don't want to change anything.. You think and dream more like a big bird, like an eagle.. Keep doing so.. and don't let no "little bird thinkers" stop you from reaching your dreams.. Would be glad to hear from you again..may be.. my ICQ is 109108439.. or e-mail: missolgie@yahoo.com
Thanks for your website and your sharing your dreams..
