Blog Action Day

Today is Blog Action Day and I had a post prepared, but it went out the window on Friday.

You see, Friday Al Gore was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for his work in promoting environmental awareness... an issue most don't even want to see.

CNN's site allowed reader comments, and I was disappointed to read how divided the response was, while fellow American citizens began en masse to condemn the award as "disappointing" and labeled the environmental concerns as "pseudo-science", I was happy to see that CNN put up "Planet in Peril" video right next to their comments.

The contrast was striking. It doesn't matter what we say; what matters is what is; what matters is action.

The opposite of love is not hate, it's indifference.

- Elie Wiesel

Words are not enough, and images speak louder than words, so instead I'll leave you with CNN's video to do the talking...

You have just said EVERYTHING I have been thinking since I heard the GOOD news that Al Gore won.

Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Sometimes I think we have been invaded by aliens (the outer space kind). I just don't get it.

Next time I'm in Rome, the vino is on me!!!

Grazie Geggie :)
Anche tu Tina :)
It was nice that both your blogs also joined the project...

Hi Karen! Isn't it the case?
I was ecstatic when Gore won,
Of course, then I turned on the news and wondered what happened... "pseudo-science"?, I don't get it either!

We're on! Vino in Rome :)

Here, here!
I don't care what they say about Al Gore, I may not even like him, that's not the point. The important thing is he made us all talk about this, he made the environment a top priority - sure, he's not the only one in the world ever to do that - but he used his influence to make this a powerful chain of action.
So I guess we all have to thank him and help him :)

I almost turned on the heat, but nah, its not that cold.
There has been lots of recent talk about Italian youth living with the family until they are 30 and beyond. What lacks in independence is sure good for the environment -- sharing appliances, heat, water etc.

I missed "Blog action day" :( Such a pity. I have been relaxing for a couple of days and more or less forgot about the computer :(

I like the picture you chose. No matter if people agree or disagree on Global Warming...actions taken towards a better world is always on the right (or should I say correct) side.

Off to watch that video.

I too was so disappointed by some of the reactions to Gore's winning the prize. So many of the negative comments just trotted out old smears against Gore that have already been proved as exaggerations or just lies. And then there were the people who were saying that the prize doesn't matter any more because the choice of Gore and the UN committee just prove that it's become politicized. Bit of circular argument, that one.
